– 100Cr6 steel is a high carbon chromium bearing steel, also known as AISI 52100 or EN31 steel. It has a carbon content of 0.95-1.10% and a chromium content of 1.30-1.60%.
– The steel has a high hardenability and can be hardened by heat treatment, making it suitable for applications requiring high strength and wear resistance.
– The material also exhibits good toughness, enabling it to withstand high impact loads and resist cracking or fracturing.
– 100Cr6 steel has excellent rolling contact fatigue and wear resistance properties, making it commonly used in bearing applications. It is used for manufacturing ball bearings, roller bearings, and other components in automotive, aerospace, and industrial machinery.
– The steel is also used for making certain cutting tools, such as high-speed steel drills and taps, due to its high hardness and wear resistance.
– Another application of 100Cr6 steel is in the manufacture of certain components for the automotive industry, such as axle shafts, piston rings, and crankshafts.
– 100Cr6 steel can be readily machined, although it is harder than most steels. It can be turned, drilled, and milled using appropriate cutting tools and machining techniques.
– For applications requiring superior dimensional stability and precision, the steel can be further hardened and ground to achieve the desired surface finish.
– In its annealed or soft state, 100Cr6 steel is also used in the manufacture of components that require high strength and toughness, such as gears, springs, and shafts.
– The chemical composition of 100Cr6 steel is closely controlled to achieve the desired properties. Apart from carbon and chromium, it may also contain trace amounts of manganese, silicon, and phosphorus. The exact composition may vary depending on the production method and end-use requirements.
