8. Young’s Modulus: 210 GPa
9. Thermal Conductivity: 23 W/m·K
10. Coefficient of Thermal Expansion: 10.9 x 10^-6 /°C
11. Magnetic Properties: Slightly magnetic
12. Heat Treatment:
– Annealing: Heat at 850-900°C for 2-6 hours followed by slow cooling in the furnace (approx. 20°C per hour) to about 600°C, then air cooling.
– Quenching: Preheat at 850-900°C, then raise the temperature to 1000-1040°C and soak for about 30 minutes. Quench in oil or air.
– Tempering: Heat to the desired tempering temperature between 150-500°C and hold for the desired time. Air cool.
13. Applications:
– High-performance cutting tools such as knives, blades, punches, and dies.
– Cold working tools and dies for forming, bending, cutting, and punching operations.
– Plastic mold tools for injection molding, extrusion, and blow molding.
– Shear blades, woodworking tools, and reamers.
14. Advantages:
– Excellent wear resistance and high hardness for extended tool life.
– Good dimensional stability and resistance to deformation during heat treatment.
– High toughness and good resistance to chipping, making it suitable for heavy-duty applications.
– High compressive strength, enabling it to withstand high loads and pressures.
– Good machinability and grindability, allowing for ease of tool production and sharpening.
– Good resistance to corrosion and oxidation, ensuring tool longevity.
15. Limitations:
– Relatively high cost compared to lower-grade tool steels.
– Limited resistance to thermal shock and high-temperature softening.
– Requires proper heat treatment and maintenance to maximize performance and lifespan.
