What the figures are

Every price on this site is a customs unit value: declared trade value divided by declared net mass, computed from UN Comtrade published statistics. They are annual averages across grades, sizes and contract terms. They are not price assessments, not offers, and not suitable as a contractual benchmark.

Source and attribution

The underlying data is published by the United Nations Statistics Division (UN Comtrade) and is used here under its terms for public statistics, with the reporter, period, heading and flow stated on every page so any figure can be recomputed at source.

What is not reproduced

No licensed price assessment is reproduced, paraphrased or derived here. Subscription services such as Platts, Argus, MEPS, Kallanish and SteelBenchmarker restrict redistribution by contract and, in the European Union, by database right; this site does not read, quote or rebuild their series.

Accuracy

Reporters revise their declarations, valuation practice differs between countries, and broad headings blend products. Figures are published in good faith as arithmetic on public data, without warranty. Where a figure disagrees with the source, the source governs — send the parameters and we correct it.

Reuse

Individual tables may be quoted with a link to the page they came from. Systematic copying of the dataset is not permitted; the underlying statistics are freely available from UN Comtrade for anyone who wants the whole series.
