Narrow coated strip prices by country (HS 7212)
Narrow coated strip is slit material under 600 mm wide, bought almost entirely by tube mills, profile lines and roll-formers rather than by fabricators. It is one of the few headings where the processing cost is visible in the statistics, because slitting shows up inside the unit value.

Reading the narrow coated strip numbers
- The range runs from South Africa at 77 USD per tonne to Morocco at 2,509, a difference of 3158 %. Slit width explains more of that than anything else: narrow strip means more slitting passes per tonne.
- Only 1,982,804 tonnes of narrow coated strip moved through the reporting markets in 2024, 1,960 million dollars in all, with Germany taking 27 %.
- Kenya earns 1,757 USD per tonne more on export than it pays on import, which in this heading almost always means it owns a slitting line.
What sits inside HS 7212
Volumes look small next to 7210 while the price per tonne runs higher, because the slitting is paid for inside the unit value.
- Volumes look small because most strip is slit domestically from imported wide coil; only the markets without slitting capacity import it ready-slit.
- Edge condition is priced: a slit edge and a deburred or rounded edge are not the same product, and the second costs more.
- Strip for tube-making is ordered to a width tolerance of a fraction of a millimetre, since the width sets the finished tube diameter.
- Because buyers are industrial and repeat, contracts here run longer than in the sheet trade — quarterly rather than shipment by shipment.
