Drawn wire is several processing steps past rod, and the statistics show it: in the same country and the same year, wire typically reports 60 to 90 per cent above heading 7213. It is the clearest example in this dataset of value added being visible at the border.

Reading the steel wire numbers
- Wire runs Iraq at 434 USD per tonne against Türkiye at 1,552, 258 % apart, and here the spread really is product: galvanized, annealed, bright and spring wire are entirely different things at the same code.
- The reporting set imported 2,617,102 tonnes of steel wire in 2024, 3,054 million dollars, Germany taking 24 % of the volume.
- United Kingdom carries a 1,911 USD per tonne export premium, the mark of a drawer selling coated or specialty wire and buying plain.
What sits inside HS 7217
Several processing steps past rod, so the unit value typically runs 60–90 % above heading 7213 in the same country and the same year.
- Wire diameter drives cost per tonne steeply: each drawing pass adds energy, dies and time, so fine wire costs multiples of coarse wire.
- Galvanized wire carries a zinc coating class, and heavy class coating can add 15 to 25 per cent to the price.
- Tensile class is ordered, not incidental — spring, mesh and binding wire are drawn and heat-treated differently.
- Packaging is a real cost item here: carriers, spools and coil weight are specified on every order.
